Vernonia Mountain Bike Skills Park

Located in a park that once contained the world's largest covered lumber mill, the Vernonia Mountain Bike Skills Park emphasizes progression and a family-friendly environment. The park has connectivity to the Banks-Vernonia and Crown Zellerbach Trails and is adjacent to a primitive campground and down a trail from an RV campground. There are B&Bs close by as well.

Trails are hard packed dirt, muddy in some places and grass covered in others- perfect for beginners and cyclocross training. There is about a mile and a half of finished trail including a loop and offshoots. But the park's plan calls for a pump track, a graduated "North Shore"-style riding area, three dirt jump lines and a dual slalom practice course.

Watch for trail-building events. Come out to build and ride.

From Portland, travel NW on Hwy 30 past Scappoose. Take the Scappoose-Vernonia Hwy to Vernonia. Park at the Vernonia Log Pond in Vernonia. Enter and park at the Parking Area for Vernonia Lake (north end of town). From the Parking area follow the gravel road to the right of the pond. Go left where gravel road forks at a pump station. Follow gravel road about 1/4 mile. Entrance to trails is on the left. To reach Dirt Jump/Skills Area, head immediately to the left on the wide dirt trail.
